Shake Shack Frozen Custard, London

I was given a couple of vouchers to claim a frozen custard from Shake Shack recently, so when i passed one with my friend on a nice sunny day, we decided to pop in and give it a try, especially as a foodie friend raved on about it so much in the past.

Whilst queuing up, one of the team came up to us so we asked him for recommendations. It turned out he had only tried one flavour so didn't know what the others flavours were like.

At the counter, I handed over the vouchers and the girl looked slightly puzzled, so she got her supervisor over then he taught her how to enter the options into the till (i'm guessing these vouchers aren't that common).

She told us there were three flavours available: vanilla, chocolate and raspberry cheesecake, which was the flavour of the month.

My friend and I asked for a combination of vanilla and raspberry cheesecake. They didn't ask us if we wanted a cone or cup, and we forgot to ask.

She took our vouchers then gave us a buzzer which would alert us once our order was ready. When I went to pick it up, i saw two cups with two cones sticking out. We were not expecting such a big dessert!

Both were extremely smooth in texture and my favourite was vanilla as i felt the raspberry cheesecake was just a little bit too strong in terms of cheesiness. In addition, I felt the cheesecake flavour one would've been nicer if there was a little bit of texture (but that might be because i am used to other ice creams having little chunks of cheesecake or biscuit in). Saying that, my friend preferred that over the vanilla, hence it's definitely down to personal preference.

The Good:

- Smooth texture of the frozen custard

- Portion size (but i believe this may have been an error on their part as the voucher clearly said a single cup or cone. :))

The Not as Good:

- Staff were not clued up about the menu or process, but that may have been due to us trying out a new branch

Address: Various branches across London

Price: Free with voucher. £4 without

Food: 3.0/5.0

Service: 2.5/5.0

Value for money: 5.0/5.0 (if the portion size is what we were given)

Good for: Anybody that isn't lactose intolerant

Would i return? Probably not for the frozen custard as i still prefer gelato from specialist shops
